Interview and Giveaway with Kate Mathias!

Tell us a little about Worlds Apart—

Worlds Apart is a story of two women that look identical to one another, but one has blonde hair and the other has brown.  They find that they can “jump” into each other’s parallel realities in times of need.  A friendship is forged between the two women that find that little decisions they have made has changed each of their lives to be different.  It is a story of love, friendship, and a bond that sometimes is broken.  In the end, can friendship be enough to save them from what they cherish the most?

Are you a pantster or a planner?

I’m afraid I don’t know exactly what a pantster is, but I’m thinking it’s someone who flies by the seat of their pants. J  I’m definitely a planner.  I plan out my life months in advance.  Too bad that life doesn’t always follow my well-laid plans.

Do you have a character you enjoyed writing the most?

I enjoyed writing about Piper the most.  She is the most like me, and I could relate to her life and how she was feeling.

Favorite new release? {book or movie}

I’m excited to see Les Miserable coming out on Christmas Day.  I love the play and music of Les Miserable.

Do you have a favorite Indie author?

Yes, that would be Katja Millay.  I have gotten to know her a little, and she is the most down to earth person.  She is so approachable and sweet.  I loved The Sea of Tranquility.  She is a very talented author!

Is there a genre you would like to try?

I pretty much read all genres, but may like to try and write mysteries.

Could you live without coffee?

Yes, I don’t drink the stuff.  I know, I’m strange!

Do you have a favorite Youtube video?

Can you knit?

Yes, sort of.  I once knitted a scarf and it was about 10 feet long because I couldn’t figure out how to tie it off.

Tell us a joke!

Why couldn’t the pony neigh?  Because he was a little hoarse (horse).  Haha!  My seven year old likes that one!

What’s your favorite thing about the writing process?

I love to hear people’s reactions to my stories.  I like talking to them about where my story is going.

Three facts about you?

I have flown an airplane.  I’ve gone skydiving.  I’m legally blind.  I can see just fine with my contacts in.  It’s only a problem if I don’t remember where I stashed my glasses. J

Do you believe in UFOs?

Nope.  I do believe that there are other life forms out there in other universes.

What was your favorite snack growing up?

Peanut butter crackers, but now I can’t eat them because all three of my kids are allergic to peanuts.

Would you rather have fame or fortune?

Fortune.  I like giving things to people and it would make me happy to pay off my family and friends’ houses or buy them a new car.

Pick one book that is your all time favorite?

The Giving Tree.  It is a children’s book.

Embarrassing guilty pleasure?

I love peanut butter and chocolate ice cream.  Since I can’t have peanut products in the house, I go and get that ice cream and eat it in the car where I’m not around my kids.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

Extrovert for sure!

Favorites:

Muppet -  The Swedish Chef.  I always liked that you could never understand what he was saying.

Cartoon growing up- Smurfs

Color- Purple

Type of Monster-  I guess the monsters on Sesame Street.

Do you speed when you drive?

Always, but only by a few miles over the speed limit.

Spaghetti or Lasagna and why?

Spaghetti.  I love pasta! Lasagna is sometimes too heavy.

Your thoughts on Self Publishing—

I think it is wonderful to have an avenue where you can express yourself freely.  I honestly thought that I was rare to have written a book.  As I get more into the self-publishing world, I’ve learned that I am not rare at all.  There are a lot of us out there trying to sell our work.  I mainly read Indie author’s books.

Your thoughts on Zombies—

I think they are weird.  There are so many shows about them now.  They are quite revolting to look at.

Do you believe in the Loch Ness Monster?  No

Are you a tweeter, a re-tweeter, or you couldn’t care less about Twitter?

Learning, my Twitter UN is  @katemathias

Would you rather sit on a porch with sweet tea {insert other beverage if tea isn’t your thing} or go hiking with a bottle of water and a smile?

I would rather sit on the porch with a diet Pepsi and a book.

Your favorite type of music—

I like a lot of different kinds of music, Top 40, Alternative, and a little bit of country (I love Carrie Underwood!).

Your favorite color of Skittle-Purple

Your favorite memory—

It was the perfect sunny day and I was with my family on the beach in Florida.  We spent the day playing in the waves, boogie boarding, and building sand castles.  As I watched my children having the time of their lives, I felt so extremely blessed.

Your favorite quote—

“Life is 10 percent what you make it, and 90 percent how you take it.”–  Irving Berlin

Your favorite way to spend an evening—

I love to be curled up on the couch under a blanket reading a good book after having a big meal not cooked by me!

Tell us what you are working on now!—

I’m writing the second book in The Silver Oaks Series, entitled Hiding in Plain Sight.  It will be released in early 2013.

Anything you would like to say to the aspiring authors reading this blog?

Never give up on your dream.  Keep striving to make it happen.  You are good enough so be confident in your abilities that others will like your work.  Writing has been one of my most accomplished feelings so don’t give up.  It is a constant struggle for me to wonder if people enjoy my book, but in the end I write for myself.  Life is too short to spend it worrying about how others will receive your work.  Write and then write some more and be confident!
